After weeks of optimizing the economics and the smart contracts behind platform, we are excited to share our first version of the Tranche protocol on the Kovan testnet with the community. We want to collect as much feedback before we go to mainnet to ensure a successful launch.

Tranche is a decentralized protocol for managing risk. The protocol integrates with any interest accrual token, such as Compound’s cTokens and AAVE’s aTokens, to create two new interest-bearing instruments, one with a fixed-rate, Tranche A, and one with a variable rate, Tranche B.

The protocol is currently integrated with Compound and charges fees in Dai and USDT. As a risk management protocol, starting with Compound, a well-established and highly trusted platform made the most sense as we apply our Tranche system to the DeFi industry. Moving forward, we’re looking to integrate Aave tokens as well as other tokens from the DeFi world.

For all the steps below, make sure you perform all actions on the Kovan testnet!

Setting up your environment

To use the app, you need to have either a MetaMask wallet, or a wallet that supports WalletConnect to interact with this contract.

1- Go to https://testnet-v1.tranche.finance/tranche

2- Connect your Ethereum wallet, and switch to the Kovan testnet

Acquiring Kovan testnet tokens:

To deposit into Tranche, you need to have the base currency of each instrument on the Kovan testnet. For example, for the Tranche A tokens for cDAI, you will need DAI. To get DAI, or any other base currency:

3- Get Kovan ETH (KETH) from this faucet : https://faucet.kovan.network — you will need to log in with a Github account.

4- Go to Uniswap, switch to the Kovan testnet, and swap ETH to DAI or USDT. Use the links below for the specific pairs:

Buying Tranche tokens

For each asset on the Tranche protocol, there is two Tranches, a fixed rate, and a variable rate Tranche.

5- To learn more about each Tranche, expand the box by pressing anywhere on the card. You’ll see more information on the breakdown of the yield of the asset.

6- To deposit into and buy the Tranche token, you need to first enable the spend of your asset by pressing on the toggle on the top right token of the Deposit section. After you press the toggle, you will need to sign the Ethereum transaction from your wallet.

7- After your deposit button is enabled, input the amount that you would like to purchase, and click the deposit button. After depositing, you’ll receive an equivalent amount of your deposit in the form of Tranche tokens.

8- You can track the performance of your deposit by checking the amount under the “My Deposits” column.

Exiting a Tranche

Tranche tokens are perpetual, so you are able to exit a Tranche at any given point.

9- To exit a Tranche position, you need to enable the Withdraw function in the asset. Press on the toggle in the top right in the Withdraw box.

10- Input the amount that you would like to withdraw, press on the Withdraw button and sign the Ethereum wallet transaction.

Submitting your feedback

The community’s feedback is deeply important to us and is essential for the growth of the ecosystem. After you’re done with testing the app, you’re invited to complete this survey:
